Born and raised in the country outside the Nashville, Tennessee area, Dr. Murray graduated from high school there and then completed her Bachelor’s Degree in South Carolina. She returned to Tennessee afterward, met and married her husband, and together they quickly moved to a very rural area east Tennessee with minimal local healthcare access. She started a business while there. When her mentor in that business was diagnosed with and quickly passed away from a preventable diagnosis missed due to lack of access to healthcare, and as she puts it, “…I got sad, then I got mad, then I determined to be a drop in the bucket that fixes it.” She completed med school in East Tennessee, moved to Lynchburg for residency, and was delighted to be able to fulfill her passion for rural medicine and to offer full-spectrum care in rural Virginia.
